Why I Hate the Carnival...

I've recently come to the realization that I am basically an old woman in a 19-year-old body.  I've got plenty of examples and arguments to back-up this claim, but today I'll only be speaking on one:

This hasn't always been an issue.  Nope!  I used to be just like every other teenager: spending money and riding rides like I had an iron stomach.  Now, however, it's a different story.  I no longer enjoy attending the good ol' county fair.  Actually, it's something I considerably loathe now.  As an alumni-4Her, I will always spend time volunteering and helping the program that made me who I am today, but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend all my extra time there.  Wanna know why?  Well, let me give you a few good reasons:

#1: Crowds

It's no secret that I'm claustrophobic.  This, obviously, means I hate large crowds.  Another thing I hate? Immature, stupid people.  For some reason, these two things go hand-in-hand more often than not.  I get irritated, uncomfortable, and grumpy.  I guess this just has to do with the fact that I'd rather be sitting at home with a book instead of increasing my social life.

#2: Rides

Unlike popular belief, I enjoy riding rides (kind of).  I'm all for hitting up an amusement park and trying out some of the coasters, but I don't see the point of 'tickets'.  I hate paying $20.00 for 20 tickets and getting about 4 rides out of it.  Seriously though, the only ride I actually enjoy at the fair is called 'The Zipper'.  For less than a 10-minute ride, I have to use FIVE TICKETS.  That basically means that I pay $5 for every time I get on.  Along with that, anything that spins is a big 'no no'.  I can do really fast and jerky, but spinning makes me lose my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

(Oh, and let's not even mention this factor)

#3: The Food

Not only is this pure CRAP to put into your system; it's also ridiculously over-priced.  However, it didn't stop my mom and I from trekking-in to get our annual bag of cotton candy and a caramel apple.

#4: PDA (Public Displays of Affection)

Oh yea, cause when I think perfect date spot; I think of creepy ride operators, overly-priced food, and big crowds.  I don't know who decided the carnival was the date capital of the world.  Personally, I'd rather go to, oh I don't know, somewhere a little more intimate?!  What happened to the good ol' movie and dinner date?  That right there is my definition of the PERFECT date.  Apparently, no one else agrees with me.  It seems like everywhere I looked I was approached with hugging, kissing, and holding hands.  BLEGH!  However; I do agree that riding the ferris wheel with your 'honey' is quite romantic, so I'll just let that one slide.

Get it?... Slide?.......No?

Even with these prominent 'distastes', I ended up spending a lot of time at the fair.  I may hate the midway, but I do enjoy watching and helping with the 4-H shows and activities.  I even got the chance to help show for a younger 4-Her!  It was definitely weird being in the ring again.

As you can see in the above pictures, I did spend a few minutes in the midway to capture some pictures.  Even though I hated it, the carnival brings about a lot of really cool pictures within it.

What do you hate about the carnival?  Let me know in the comments or on your own blog!  I'm not opposed to you grabbing my first picture for your post; as long as you make sure to let me know your URL so I can check-it-out!  Thanks for reading, and I'll catch ya on the flip-side!

  2. My best friend was a 4H-er and even had a goat she would showcase(?) at the county fair. It was so much fun to go watch her work and compete. The barn areas are always my favorite part of the fair. Thanks for posting!

    1. I'd have to agree that the barns are one of my favorite places too! I showed sheep for like 4 years, and I've helped with the show for cows, pigs, and horse.
