My Summer Playlist

As you may or may not know, I'm a huge music person.  I love a good jam session!  From upbeat get-up-and-dance songs to make-you-cry slow songs.  If its got a good beat or meaningful lyrics; it makes it on my iTunes playlist.  Since my playlist is almost reaching the 1,000 mark, it's very hard for me to narrow down the list; no matter the filter.  Especially when I'm trying to pick out only 15 songs I loved this summer.  The music industry has been booming recently with a lot of recent song releases.  The radio stations are having no problem finding big hits to play over and over, and frankly; neither am I!  But alas: I have done it!  I created a list of the top 15 songs I've been jammin' to this summer!

Get up... Dance... and ENJOY!

Here's To Never Growin' Up by Avril Lavigne

I'm nineteen going on two.  The thought of turning 20 seriously scares the crap out of me.  To be completely serious: there's not much of a difference between 19 and 20, but I think it has something to do with losing the word TEEN at the end of the number.  When I turn 20; I'm immediately seen as more mature and 'adult-like'.  However, like Avril Lavigne so amazingly sang, "We can stay forever young", and I plan on doing just that.

Really Don't Care by Demi Lovato ft. Cher Lloyd

I feel like I haven't freaked out enough about Demi's new album, so here it goes: IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!  Want an album that makes you get-up-and-dance, but still has meaningful lyrics that make you want to cry?  GET THIS CD!  Like right now...  None of this iTunes one-song shit, this is a good enough album to own every. single. song.  This song in particular is probably my favorite from the album.  To make it even better; Cher Lloyd is featured to make the song sassy and fierce.  Want a girl power anthem?  Look no further.

People Like Us by Kelly Clarkson

This is a song that brings out the awkward dancing within me, and not because of its un-dancelike beat.  This is the anthem for anyone who feels different or unwelcome in their life.  My normal dancing is different and unwelcome.  However, this song always seems to make it okay to be 100% you.  Not much else I can say about this song other than praise its amazing connection.  I love seeing artists who came from singing competitions (like American Idol, The Voice, and The X-Factor) succeed like Kelly Clarkson has.  Anyone else remember her song Breakaway?  I don't know about you, but I always feel SUPER nostalgic after listening to it... Maybe that's just me...

Cruise by Florida Georgia Line ft. Nelly

I'd be crazy not to include this song on my summer playlist.  It basically is the song of the summer.  However, I wouldn't recommend dancing to it.  Just ask Miss. Swift...

I honestly can't hand this anymore...

Miss Movin' On by Fifth Harmony

I think we all remember when I recently fan-girled over this song.  If you want to reminisce you can find that post here.

Wings by Little Mix

Ever since I first heard this song, it has been one of my all-time favorites.  It's actually #1 in my top 25 most played songs.  Also, it's been my alarm clock for the past year.  Usually I get sick of my alarm clock sound after 3 mornings of waking up at 7:30, but this has yet to put me in a grumpy, morning mood!  Actually, it's the complete opposite!

I Need Your Love by Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding

I just recently fell in love with this song.  I've always been a huge fan of Ellie Goulding, and this has become my favorite song with her featured.  Its got a beat that makes you want to roll the windows down... AND CRUISE!!!!!  (Sorry... I couldn't help myself)

Treasure by Bruno Mars

I heard this song for the first time on The Voice, and ever since then it became one of my favorites.  Bruno Mars reminded me of the Jackson 5 with his smooth vocals and jazzy sounds.  I LOVE IT!  I've also been obsessed with his dance moves.  I may or may not have learned all of the choreography... I'll let you decide the answer.

Troublemaker by Olly Murs

If you haven't heard of Olly Murs; you are deprived.  You need to listen to this songthis song, and this song.  Are you a fan yet?  YOU SHOULD BE!  I learned about Olly Murs when he opened for One Direction's Up All Night Tour (Don't Judge Me... I'm a dedicated fan).  Sadly, I didn't get tickets for that tour, and I was DEVASTATED to learn he wasn't opening for the tour I actually had tickets for.  I'm glad he is starting to become a bigger deal here in America though, but I enjoyed having him all to myself (sounded less creepy in my head).

Obsession by Tich

AHHHHH! TICH!  I love this girl... Seriously though, I remember watching her post covers on her personal channel, and now she is creating music videos on Vevo!  Talk about awesome!  I thought I was in love with her first single, but she blew me away with this one.  It starts off slow; then all of a sudden I have the urge to jump up on my feet dancing around and twirling like an idiot!  It's such a girly song that always seems to put a smile on my face :D

Feel This Moment by Pitbull ft. Christina Aquilera

My mom and I are obsessed with this song; as weird as that sounds.  At about the 0:57 point is when we get up and try to dance like Pitbull (keyword: TRY).  Not only that; we try to imitate Christina's flawless vocals.  Let's just say we're not exactly Grammy-winning singers, nor will we ever be.  However, this song always seems to make our hectic and crazy days a little better.

Cups by Anna Kendrick

The creativity in this song is enough to make it amazing, plus the beat they added along with the cup rhythm is awesome.  It's not really a get-up-and-dance-and-fist-pump song, but it's a great song to sing-along (or scream-along) to during a car ride with your buds.

Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker

I believe Darius Rucker is one of the best country artists of all-time.  His songs are 100% country and still 100% rockin'.  At least where I come from, a lot of people absolutely HATE country, and just the sound of it can put them in a pouty mood.  I believe, however, that this song can get anyone tappin' their toes and swaying back-and-forth.

Crazy Kids by Ke$ha

I decided to post a lyric video instead of her actual music video because I honestly never understand her videos.  They're just too strange for my brain to even start to comprehend.  Also, I posted the clean version onto my blog because she added a few too many curse words for my comfort..  If you feel the need to listen to a dirty version you can find that here.  Weirdly enough, I've always been a fan of KeSha.  I think it was my cousin who introduced me to her, and now I'm considering going to one of her concerts here soon.  I'm expecting glitter, craziness, and FUN!

She's Not Afraid by One Direction

This wouldn't be a "Lizzy Playlist" without a One Direction song.  They have a lot of really fun songs on their album, but this one takes the cake for a great summer, car-ride song.  There has been countless times when Abby and I have driven through town with the windows down and volume up.  I think the fact that you can hear Niall's adorable laugh at 2:27 makes it a complete hit!

What have you been listening to this summer?

  2. Love these songs! Except Old Crow Medicine Show has a MUCH better version of Wagon Wheel. I was a little tipsy when I heard the Darius Rucker version and might have cried a bit/screamed swear words. I was stressed and just being a whiny-pants when I heard the Florida Georgia Line Cruise remix. And cried.

    I'm a crier.
