Tad: The Lost Explorer is a movie about a construction worker who always dreamed of life as a famous archeologist. He finally got his chance when he took the place of a professor who needed to deliver a sacred tablet. Tad meets (and falls in love with) the beautiful Sara, daughter of Professor Lavrof, during his search of the Lost City of Paititi. While he tries to keep his true identity a secret, he has to race against evil treasure hunters to find the ancient city.
I personally think a lot of my bad feelings toward this movie have to do with the fact that it is meant for people that are much younger than me. It just didn't stack-up with the Pixar/Disney movies that I grew-up with. That being said, I was happily surprised with its cuteness. The dog and the mute bird were a very comedic addition that kept me giggling throughout.
If I could fix something of the movie, I'd do something about how the female characters (or character) are portrayed. My first issue is that there is basically only two female characters in the entire movie; Sara and the old receptionist. My second issue is Sara. As you can see in the above picture, Sara is pictured as modern-day Barbie: big boobs, big butt, and a perfect hourglass shape. Where's the frizzy hair? the freckles? or the glasses?! I just don't agree with the sexist portrayal of these characters.
Through all of this, however, I do recommend the movie for anyone who enjoys cute, easy-to-watch movies. Even though there were a few aspects that I didn't like; I'd definitely let my kids watch it... if I had kids... which I don't. And guess what.... You could win a copy too!
